Who We Are
We are Sarah Hutchinson (12th grade) and Stephen Hutchinson (9th grade).
We have two very special older brothers, Paul and Randy. Paul is 21 years old. He has a mitochondrial disorder that has been progressive neurologically and medically. He is now profoundly disabled. Paul has been cared for in our home with the help of many nurses due to his medical needs. He loves to listen to music, be talked to and snuggled with. He loves interaction and he shows us with his sweet smile and laughter. Randy is 18 and attends J.M. Robinson High School. He has an intellectual disability and an autism spectrum disorder. He loves history and nature documentaries, computer and video games, as well as anything Transformers or Star Wars. We have been blessed to grow up in a home with our older brothers with special needs. We have learned from the youngest ages that serving them blesses us even more than it serves them! There is nothing better than to see Paul smile or Randy relax and chat with us. We have also served special needs children in our church, Crossway Community Church, both in small group childcare and in our church's ministry to families with special need's children, Luke's Kids. Sarah has served at Camp Joy and Joy Prom through Joyful Hearts. We have also volunteered at summer day camps and Angelcare with Cornelius Parks and Rec and at the Cabarrus Spring Games for Special Olympics. It is great to see friendships blossom during these programs and we want see those relationships continue year round. We will recruit peer Buddies from local high school service clubs and honor societies as well as local homeschool groups. We believe that teens who reach out to become peer Buddies will receive far more than they give!!! |
